Every place in Edinburgh is different. Local Place Plans have been brought in to reflect this. They are a new type of plan introduced by the Planning (Scotland) Act 2019. Producing a Local Place Plan gives you a chance to shape the future of your local area by creating a plan that addresses local needs or concerns.
Local Place Plans and City Plan 2040
We are starting to think about City Plan 2040. This will be the next local development plan after City Plan 2030.
We must consider all registered Local Place Plans when preparing City Plan 2040. This means they are an opportunity to influence City Plan 2040 and how your area develops in the future.
City Plan 2040 will include information on decisions like:
- where new homes will be built and what kind of homes are built
- providing services that people need within easy reach
- making sure there are enough places of work within the city
- improving walking, wheeling and cycling routes and access to public transport
- supporting residents physical and mental wellbeing
- protecting the natural environment
- responding to the climate crisis, such as adapting to increased flood risk
