Cycle parking

Public bike parking

Bike rack with white bike

To encourage active travel and support cycling for everyday journeys, we have 2 programmes which provide cycle parking facilities public bike parking and residential cycle hangars

The Public Bike Parking project aims to increase cycle parking city-wide, providing both regular and non-standard cycle parking solutions. There are over 4,300 publicly accessible cycle parking spaces across Edinburgh.

The Public Bike Parking strategy focuses on high-demand areas, including the City Centre and significant trip generators, while prioritising locations in low Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD) deciles. This strategy ensures that cycle parking is placed where it is most needed, effectively addressing gaps in current provision and addressing public requests.

Request new public bike parking

We are expanding our network of Public Bike Parking and welcome suggestions for new locations. We are currently developing an interactive map tool to streamline this process. In the meantime, if you think an area would benefit from additional cycle racks email ActiveTravel@edinburgh.gov.uk with your suggestions.

All requests will be reviewed as part of our strategic approach.
